In September 2026, KANS, a famous Chinese skincare brand under Shanghai Chicmax Co., Ltd., successfully obtained approval from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) for its self-developed cosmetic ingredient Cyclohexapeptide-9.
The approval allows Cyclohexapeptide-9 to be included in Indonesia's cosmetic ingredient database, enabling cosmetic products formulated with the ingredient to proceed with the local notification process, subject to other applicable regulatory requirements.
[Certificate of Approval for the Cosmetic Ingredient from BPOM]

Independent R&D → INCI naming → China new cosmetic ingredient notification → BPOM ingredient approval in Indonesia
Cyclohexapeptide-9 is a cyclic peptide active ingredient independently developed by Chicmax. The company has obtained patents covering the ingredient' structure and functional applications.
The ingredient has been incorporated into a range of skincare products under KANS and is one of the brand’s independently developed active ingredients.
Before cosmetics can be marketed in Indonesia, companies must complete the BPOM cosmetic notification (notifikasi) process, and the ingredients used in formulations generally need to be recognized in the BPOM ingredient database. For new or unlisted ingredients, additional technical and safety documentation may be required for BPOM assessment.
Although Cyclohexapeptide-9 had already completed the new cosmetic ingredient notification process in China and obtained an INCI name, it had not yet been included in the BPOM ingredient database. As a result, KANS products containing the ingredient could not proceed with the Indonesian notification process until the ingredient received local regulatory clearance.
This is a regulatory consideration that Chinese beauty brands developing proprietary ingredients may encounter when entering the Indonesian market.
To address this regulatory requirement, Chicmax worked with ZMUni Compliance Centre on the Indonesian ingredient submission for Cyclohexapeptide-9.
Chicmax provided the underlying R&D and safety data generated during the development of the ingredient, including relevant testing reports and efficacy-related data. These materials were compiled and prepared to support BPOM's technical assessment.
ZMUni's cosmetics export compliance team reviewed and organized the technical documentation in accordance with Indonesian regulatory requirements, identified key information needed for the assessment, and coordinated responses to technical questions raised during the review.
When additional information or clarification was required, ZMUni worked with the relevant parties to prepare supplementary materials and update the submission accordingly.
The BPOM approval of Cyclohexapeptide-9 provides KANS with a regulatory pathway to use its proprietary peptide ingredient in cosmetic products intended for the Indonesian market.
For Chicmax, the project represents a practical step toward bringing its independently developed cosmetic ingredients to overseas markets. It also reflects the company's continued efforts to develop proprietary active ingredients and establish the regulatory foundation needed for their international use.
For ZMUni, the project demonstrates the importance of adapting ingredient compliance strategies to the regulatory requirements of individual target markets and providing technical support throughout the regulatory process.
As Chinese beauty brands increasingly expand into overseas markets, regulatory preparation for proprietary ingredients has become an important part of international product development and market entry. In addition to finished-product notification, companies may need to address ingredient eligibility, safety documentation, technical assessments, and country-specific regulatory requirements before their formulations can be introduced to a new market.
ZMUni Compliance Centre supports cosmetics companies with regulatory requirements for international market entry, including cosmetic ingredient compliance, safety assessment, product notification and registration, and market-specific regulatory submissions.
