Notification No. 20250045 marks the third time Vitamin K2 has been notified in China, each by a different domestic company.
According to the notifier, Maiggic, this submission concerns Vitamin K2 (MK-7), a subtype featuring seven isoprene units in its side chain. As a fat-soluble vitamin, it plays a vital role in human health. Natural sources include animal liver, meat, legumes, fermented dairy products, and especially natto, which contains the highest levels.
Globally, Vitamin K2 is widely used in dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, medical foods, beverages, fermented yogurts, dairy products, cosmetics, and animal feed. Studies have shown its notable benefits in antioxidant activity, reducing inflammatory markers like TSLP and IL-8, enhancing mitochondrial function and ATP production, and helping improve the appearance of dark circles.
Notification No. 20250046 concerns an extract derived from various parts of Acanthopanax sessiliflorus, a deciduous shrub or small tree known for its dual use in both medicine and food. The plant is mainly distributed across China's northeastern and northern provinces, as well as in North Korea and the Russian Far East. In May 2008, China's Ministry of Health (now the National Health Commission) approved cultivated Acanthopanax sessiliflorus as a novel food, with its stems, leaves, and fruits permitted for use in beverages and alcoholic products.
Its recent notification as a new cosmetic ingredient highlights the growing interest in "food-cosmetic homologous" ingredients and marks its expanding role in the cosmetics sector.
