SCCS - Preliminary Opinion Open for Comments on Hydroxyapatite (nano) in Oral Cosmetic Products

On 11 January 2023, SCCS released it’s opinions for the following questions on use of Hydroxyapatite (nano) in oral cosmetic products.

1. Does the SCCS consider hydroxyapatite (nano) safe when used in oral cosmetic products according to the maximum concentrations and specifications as reported in the submission, taking into account reasonably foreseeable exposure conditions?

2. Does the SCCS have any further scientific concerns with regard to the use of hydroxyapatite (nano) in oral cosmetic products?

SCCS’ opinion on these two questions are open for comments until 1 March 2023.

 

 

SCCS - Minutes of the Meeting on Cosmetic Ingredients

On 19-20 December 2022, SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) held a meeting in Luxembourg to discuss the use of the following cosmetic ingredients.

1. New mandates or information from DG GROW on methylsalicylate, hair dye HC blue 18, Zn salts.

2. Draft opinions on salicylic acid, hair dye ingredient hydroxypropyl p-phenylenediamine and its dihydrochloride salt, sliver zinc zeolite, butylparaben, methylparaben, benzyl salicylate, citral, TiO2.

3. Comments on opinion on alumunium, and arbutins.

 

 

SCCS-Minutes of the Meeting on Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products

On 18 January 2023, a meeting was held by Scientific Commission of Consumer Safety (SCCS) to discuss the use of nanomaterials in cosmetic products. The following points were discussed in the meeting.

1. HAP-Hydroxyapatite (nano) – the preliminary opinion has been adopted by the SCCS and published for commenting period until 1 March 2023.

2. Fullerenes (nano) – the SCCS received additional data from one Notifier. The working group is working further on the opinion and plans to finalise it in Q1 2023.

3. The working group is working further on the newest version of the document of Nano Guidance. It has been updated with new text.

 

 

Canada Released a Notice to Stakeholders Concerning Review of the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist

On 23 January 2023, Canada released a notice to stakeholders concerning review of the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. The purpose of this notice is to inform stakeholders of substances that Health Canada is considering for inclusion in future updates to the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist (Hotlist). At this time, stakeholders are invited to provide safety information or other considerations about the proposed substances that may further inform Health Canada's decisions. The proposal includes the following:

1. Additions to the Hotlist

2. Changes to the conditions for existing entries on the Hotlist

3. Changes to include additional substance identifiers or make minor corrections

This notice is not a formal consultation process, Health Canada will not respond to the information or comments received at this stage.
