In China, a new food ingredient refers to any food ingredient or substance that has not been previously used or approved for use in food products within the country. To ensure safety and compliance, new food ingredients must undergo a rigorous evaluation and approval process before they can be used in food products.

| New Applications
In the first half of 2024, China NHC and the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Center (CFSA) received a total of 15 new food ingredient applications. Of these, 2 applications have received review opinion notices, and 12 have been notified of extensions.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of new applications has increased by approximately 150%, and the number of approved ingredients has surged by 100%, with the overall application processing time continuing to shorten.
