China Approves New Feed & Feed Additive Varieties and Revises the Feed Ingredient Catalog

On January 12, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China issued Announcement No. 744, which approved a new type of feed and three new feed additives. The announcement also included supplements and revisions to the catalog of feed additive varieties. Here are the specific details:

During the monitoring period, which will be from the date of publication until the end of December 2028, production companies are required to collect information on the quality stability of the products and their impact on the safety of animal products. ZMUni Reminder: during this monitoring period, no new production applications or import registration applications for the mentioned new feed and feed additives will be accepted, except for those that have not been put into production for more than 3 years.

 

2. Allowance for the use of internationally approved feed additives
China MARA has supplemented the catalog of feed additive varieties with three feed additives that have already been approved for production and use overseas. These additives are Iron Amino Acid Complex (amino acid mixed by L-lysine and glutamic acid), Copper Amino Acid Complex (amino acid mixed by L-lysine and glutamic acid), and Manganese Amino Acid Complex (amino acid mixed by L-lysine and glutamic acid). They have been granted permission for importation, production, operation, and use within China.

 

3. Addition of new feed additive varieties and revision of their scope of application:
The "Catalog of Feed Additive Varieties" now includes the addition of potassium bicarbonate, recommended for lactating dairy cows at a dosage of 0.34%. Additionally, cassava polysaccharide iron has been added to the catalog, recommended for post-weaning piglets at a dosage of 100-150 mg/kg.

 

4. Expansion of scope for pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium
The scope of application for pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium has been expanded to include post-weaning piglets, with a recommended dosage of 1.5-6.0 mg/kg.

 

5. Supplement to the feed ingredient catalog
The feed ingredient catalog has been supplemented with the following additions: almond husks, unshelled almond husks, roundhead plantain seed husks, oil rapecake, and gardenia.

 

6. Revision of cellulose description:
The description of cellulose in the "Feed Ingredient Catalog" has been revised to clarify that it is a product obtained from natural wood or bamboo through mechanical processing, with cellulose as the main component.
