From May 6 to 11, 2026, 10 new cosmetic ingredients (NCIs) have completed notifications with China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).

Botanical Extracts & Actives

Dendrobium officinale oligosaccharides, notified by Beijing Dr Plant Biotechnology Co., Ltd., a well-known Chinese cosmetics company recognized for its plant-based skincare philosophy. The company has established multiple botanical research bases and specialized laboratories across China, and has developed skincare products featuring high-altitude botanical ingredients such as Dendrobium and Cordyceps.

Camellia petelotii flower extract, one of the most frequently notified NCIs, marks the eighth notification related to Camellia petelotii. Rich in more than 400 chemical constituents, including flavonoids, tea polyphenols, saponins, and polysaccharides, Camellia petelotii has been studied for its antioxidant potential and possible benefits related to blood glucose and lipid metabolism. Beyond cosmetic applications, it is also regarded in China as a traditional food-medicine homologous resource.

Anoectochilus roxburghii is a rare and highly valued traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It contains various bioactive constituents, including kinsenoside, plant polysaccharides, flavonoids, and flavonoid glycosides, and has been associated with antibacterial, soothing, moisturizing, repairing, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties. Beyond its applications in traditional medicine, Anoectochilus roxburghii has also gained increasing attention in the cosmetics and food industries due to its multifunctional benefits. This marks the sixth NCI notification related to Anoectochilus roxburghii.

Thesium chinense is a perennial herb belonging to the Santalaceae family. As a traditional Chinese medicinal plant, it has been officially recorded in authoritative references such as the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Due to its notable anti-infective properties, it is sometimes referred to as a "plant-derived antibiotic" in traditional herbal practice. According to information disclosed by the notifier, the ingredient is intended for use in cosmetics as a skin protectant, moisturizing agent, and sebum-control agent.

Fungal-Derived Ingredients

Tuber sinense, also known as black truffle, is a rare fungus valued for both its nutritional and traditional medicinal uses. It is mainly found in high-altitude forest regions of southwestern China, including Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou. In 2025, the research team of Dr Plant published a study titled Mechanism Study on the Firming and Anti-Wrinkle Effects of Black Truffle Extract, reporting that black truffle extract could promote elastin-related gene expression and collagen production, while increasing ATP levels and reducing ROS, thereby contributing to skin-firming and anti-aging related effects.

Fermentation-Derived & Biotech Ingredients

Guangdong Danlan International Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has successively notified two biotechnology-based cosmetic ingredients, both developed using microbial fermentation combined with natural bioresources.

These include:

  • a fermented filtrate obtained through yeast-based bioconversion of Ganoderma lucidum (Notification No. 20260076)

  • a fermented bioactive filtrate produced via yeast fermentation integrated with Dendrobium officinale plant callus culture (Notification 20260077)

Both ingredients reflect a growing trend in NCI notifications toward fermentation-derived ingredients produced through the integration of microbial fermentation with natural plant or fungal resources.

Bioactive Molecules

Nicotinamide riboside chloride (NR) is a vitamin B3 derivative and a bioactive NAD⁺ precursor. As NAD⁺ levels naturally decline with age, NR supplementation is believed to help increase NAD⁺ levels, supporting cellular energy metabolism and potentially slowing age-related cellular decline.

Niagen Bioscience, founded in 1999 and headquartered in Los Angeles, is a biotechnology company focused on bioactive ingredient research and development. The company is known for its work on nicotinamide riboside (NR) and its patented ingredient Niagen®, which is widely used in dietary supplements and functional ingredient applications.

Functional Polymers

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a biodegradable polymer derived from natural sources such as corn and sugarcane. It is biocompatible and can be broken down into carbon dioxide and water in the environment. In aesthetics, PLLA is used to stimulate collagen production for skin rejuvenation and wrinkle improvement. In cosmetics, it is also reported to support mild anti-aging, improve skin feel, provide gentle exfoliation, and enhance moisture retention.

Notification 20260081, chemically synthesized polymer ingredient notified by KOSE Corporation, marking the company's first NCI filing in China. KOSÉ is a leading Japanese cosmetics group founded in 1946 and headquartered in Tokyo. The company entered the Chinese market in 1988 and is engaged in the R&D and marketing of cosmetic products. Its portfolio includes well-known brands such as DECORTÉ, SEKKISEI, INFINITY, Albion, and Predia.
