From July 1 to 7, a total of five new cosmetic ingredients completed notification with China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The technical requirements for all related NCIs have not been publicly disclosed.
S-{8-[(4,4,4-trifluorobutyl)sulfanyl]octyl}(2,3-dihydroxyphenyl)methanethioate is a chemically synthesized cosmetic ingredient. Based on efficacy tests and in vitro studies, it can help improve TEWL, skin softness, and hair shine, and may be used as a skin protectant, emollient, and hair conditioning agent.
With regulatory support from ZMUni Compliance Centre, this ingredient completed its NCI notification and entered the public disclosure stage, marking the 19th NCI project we have been involved in this year.
This marks the first NCI notification in China by a Malaysian company. The applicant, KL-KEPONG OLEOMAS SDN BHD, is part of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK), specializing in oleochemical products derived from renewable resources such as palm and vegetable oils. Its product portfolio includes fatty acids, glycerin, fatty alcohols, esters, and surfactants, serving industries including personal care, home care, food & nutrition, and industrial applications.
This ingredient is the first plant extract-based cosmetic new ingredient notified in Hainan Province and the third NCI successfully notified in the region, highlighting Hainan’s continued exploration of tropical plant resources and cosmetic ingredient innovation.
Clinacanthus nutans belongs to the genus Clinacanthus of the family Acanthaceae. It is a shrub-like wild herb naturally distributed in the tropical rainforest of Wuzhishan, Hainan. With abundant tropical and subtropical plant resources, Hainan provides valuable opportunities for the exploration and development of botanical ingredients for cosmetic applications.
The applicant, Guangdong Yuandu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., has conducted research on Ganoderma Sinense fermentation filtrate and filed a patent application in April 2026 titled “A Composition Containing Ganoderma Sinense Fermentation Filtrate and Its Application in Skin Repair and Whitening” (Publication No. CN122031311A).
According to the patent abstract, the composition uses Ganoderma Sinense fermentation filtrate as the core ingredient and explores its potential applications in skin barrier repair and pigmentation improvement through multi-ingredient formulation.
By combining traditional fungal resources with modern fermentation technology, Ganoderma Sinense fermentation filtrate represents a new approach for developing innovative cosmetic ingredients.
