China Solicits Public Opinions on Four New Food Additives, Including 2’-FL

  On May 10, 2024, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued an announcement soliciting public opinions on four new food additive, including 1 new food enzyme, 2 new food nutrition enhancers, and 1 food nutrition enhancer with expanded scope. China Solicits Opinion on Seven Testing Methods Involving Prohibited Cosmetic Ingredients and Toothpaste

  On May 15, 2024, the China National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) released seven supplementary testing methods for public consultation, including cosmetic ingredients, toothpaste, and toxicological tests. Comments are welcome until June 10, 2024.   These testing methods include:   Determination of Phenacetin in Cosmetics Determination of Glucuronic Acid and Other 14 Kinds of Components in Cosmetics Determination of Gluconic Acid and Other 3 Kinds of Components in Cosmetics Determination of Hydroxycapric Acid in Cosmetics Determination of Asbestos in Cosmetics Determination of Soluble/Free Fluoride in Toothpaste The ARE-Nrf2 Luciferase LuSens Test   The aforementioned drafts include two prohibited ingredients: phenacetin and asbestos.

China Releases a New Cosmetics Supplementary Testing Method: Determination of Diflubenzuron Propionate in Cosmetics

  On May 10, 2024, the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued a new supplementary testing method: BJH 202402 Determination of Diflurasone Propionate in Cosmetics.   This method outlines the qualitative and quantitative analysis of Diflorasone 17-propionate (CAS No.924726-89-6) and Diflorasone 21-propionate (CAS No. 541502-98-1) in various categories of cosmetics, such as liquid (water, oil), cream and milk, gel, and wax-based products.   Additionally, the document covers various aspects of the testing process, including principles, reagents and materials, equipment requirements, sample preparation and preservation, step-by-step analysis, result calculation, precision and accuracy, as well as the limits of detection and quantification.

China Releases Filing Requirements for Health Food Added with Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Lingzhi

On April 30, 2024, the China State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued a regulation specifying the filing requirements for health food containing three ingredients: Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Lingzhi. The regulation stipulates five key aspects, including auxiliary materials usage, product dosage forms, product processing, product technical requirements, and others. It came into effect on May 1, 2024.   Prior to this, in December 2023, SAMR issued a relevant announcement, including Ginseng, American Ginseng, and Lingzhi in the Health Food Raw Materials Directory.   So far China has published several directories of health food ingredients eligible for the filing process:   Health Food Raw

China Cosmetics: Regulatory Updates of CPSR in 2024

On April 22, 2024, the China National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) issued Announcement No. 50 of 2024, extending the use of simplified version safety assessment reports for another year. Companies can submit simplified or full version safety assessment reports during this transition period.
